Description
The APEC Diabetes Mellitus Workshop 2025, held on July 1-2 in Manado, Indonesia, aimed to address the growing burden of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) through an Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) approach. The workshop brought together 106 participants from 6 APEC member economies: Brunei Darussalam; People’s Republic of China; Indonesia; The Russian Federation; Thailand; and Viet Nam. Of the total participants, 62 were female (58.5%) and 44 were male (41.5%). The key outcomes emphasized the importance of IPC in managing T2DM, highlighting the role of families, community leaders, and health professionals. Discussions included the need for interprofessional education (IPE), fiscal policies like sugar-sweetened beverage taxation, and the transformative role of digital health in improving patient outcomes. The workshop reinforced the call for sustainable financing, policy support, and long-term integration of IPC into healthcare systems to effectively reduce the T2DM burden across the Asia-Pacific region.
