Description

The APEC Workshop on Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) in Bangkok on 25-26 March 2025, bringing together policymakers, experts, and stakeholders from the Asia-Pacific region to discuss CCUS technologies' role in addressing climate change and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The workshop focused on promoting collaboration, technological innovation, and policy development to accelerate CCUS deployment. Key discussions highlighted CCUS's importance in reaching net-zero emissions and transforming energy systems, with emphasis on the need for transnational cooperation, cost reduction, and investment in infrastructure. Experts also discussed the advances in CO₂ storage and Direct Air Capture (DAC) as solutions for decarbonizing challenging sectors. The variability in energy profiles among APEC economies, such as coal-dependent economies and renewable energy leaders, was explored, with countries like Australia and Indonesia positioned to play a key role. The event stressed the importance of cross-border regulatory frameworks and public-private partnerships (PPPs) to address financial challenges and ensure the success of CCUS projects.
