Description

Family farmers often struggle to reach consumers and sell their products, but digital platforms offer a promising way to boost productivity, income, and resilience to climate shocks while supporting sustainability. The project used a literature review, survey, and workshop as methods to show a growing trend in digitalizing family farming. Although challenges like poor connectivity, limited skills, and lack of access to information still exist, the benefits -increased market access, higher income, and the empowerment of women and youth- are clear. The report concludes with recommendations, emphasizing the role of the economies, partnerships, and research in transforming family farming and building future alliances between APEC economies and other stakeholders, with the objective of serving as a tool to assist in the decision-making processes for future initiatives aimed at facilitating the adoption of digital technology.
