Description
This study aims to collect and analyze best practices of economies in utilizing telemedicine to promote health equity, and to understand the digital health governance landscape of economies.
The study presents five key findings:
- The role of telemedicine during COVID-19 was recognized.
- APEC economies are using telemedicine to reduce health disparities.
- APEC economies prioritize digital health technologies including telemedicine, electronic medical record exchange and cybersecurity.
- APEC economies prioritize digital health applications in hospital operations management, and healthcare data privacy.
- Almost all surveyed economies have established guidelines for the use of health data.
Based on the key findings, 3 recommendations for future actions are provided:
- APEC economies should harness the momentum of telehealth applications and promote digital health technologies to advance health equity.
- APEC economies should continue to promote digital health discussions and exchanges.
- More discussions and exchanges are needed on APEC regional health data standards and interoperability.
