The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a regional economic forum established in 1989 to leverage the growing interdependence of the Asia-Pacific. APEC’s 21 members share the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 – of an open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community by 2040, for the prosperity of all our people and future generations.
An opportunity to intern at the APEC Policy Support Unit (PSU) as a full-time student fellow, supported by the Hinrich Foundation, is now available. This fellowship offers students the chance to contribute to APEC’s work while gaining practical research experience.
The PSU provides professional and tailor-made research, analysis and evidence-based policy suggestions to support APEC members and fora in their deliberations and decisions. The Hinrich Foundation is an Asia-based philanthropic organization that works to advance mutually beneficial and sustainable global trade.
Description
Under the guidance of a mentor assigned by the PSU, the student fellow will:
- Conduct research and analysis on topics supporting the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040 and the Aotearoa Plan of Action, including topics on international trade and regional economic integration
- Assist in the preparation of policy and research reports/papers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Students who are presently enrolled, or accepted and about to enrol, in a graduate degree program in Economics, Public Policy, Statistics, Data Science, International Trade or other related fields of study
- Strong multidisciplinary research skills and analytical capacity, particularly in conducting quantitative research methods
- Experience in data wrangling, statistical analysis, and data management is an advantage
- Knowledge of international trade databases (UN Comtrade, CEPII BACI, WTO, WITS) is an advantage
- Proficient in the use of any statistical program for data cleaning and processing
- Excellent written and spoken English
The fellowship is open to students from APEC member economies and may be conducted in person in Singapore or virtually. Applicants should indicate their availability between October 2025 and April 2026. The selected fellow will be required to commit to a period of three to six months. A monthly allowance of SGD 2,000 will be provided to the full-time fellow.
